Hey there! I'm Dana, the artist behind Gneiss (nice!) Frog. Thanks for visiting my website.
I love making things and am so grateful to center my time around creating. All of my work is designed and created with love and intention in my home pottery studio in Bozeman, Montana.
WHY GNEISS FROG?
My love for frogs began in the murky ponds around the property of my childhood home-- as a kid I spent my summers catching bullfrogs, toads, and tadpoles from the squishy muddy banks. On warm nights I fell asleep to a vibrant chorus of spring peepers, Eastern Grey treefrogs, and American bullfrogs that drifted through my bedroom window. I never outgrew my love for frogs. To me they are a precious source of childhood nostalgia, a reminder to stay playful, and a powerful symbol of change and metamorphosis.
Gneiss "nice" is a metamorphic rock found throughout the state of Montana (think Gallatin Canyon and the Beartooths!). As a rock climber, I don't mind getting my hands on some Montana gneiss from time to time. The intense heat required to create gneiss reminds me a bit of what my pottery goes through to transform from raw clay into fully fired stoneware!
